Public Works Projects:
Canyon Rim Trail Underpass
Beginning Monday, March 29, crews with AUI, Inc. of Albuquerque will begin work to construct the Canyon Rim Trail Underpass. The project includes extension of the 10 ft. wide hard surface trail connecting the terminus of the Canyon Rim Trail and existing trailhead to Entrada Drive beneath NM 502 via a reinforced concrete box structure.
Due to the amount of construction activity that includes trenching, excavation and utility relocation near the trailhead, the trailhead parking lot and a 100 ft. section of the trail near the trailhead will be closed for safety. During this first week of construction, crews will also be working along the westbound and eastbound shoulders of NM 502 to clear and remove vegetation, but no vehicular travel lanes will be impacted at this time. Traffic signs and devices will be installed. Motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians and are advised to stay alert for construction personnel and equipment and use caution traveling through the work zone.
ADA improvements along Trinity Drive from Oppenheimer to 39th Street
Beginning Monday, April 5, crews with GM Emulsion will restart construction of pedestrian and ADA improvements along Trinity Drive from Oppenheimer to 39th Street. Late last year, crews completed similar work on the north side of this segment of Trinity Drive. Comparable improvements are now scheduled for the southern side which include replacement of damaged curb, gutter, and sidewalks. Work is scheduled 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, weather permitting. Traffic signs and devices will be installed to shift vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian traffic around the work zones. Access to residents and businesses as well as services such as mail delivery, emergency services, trash and recycling collection will be maintained. Motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians and are advised to stay alert for construction personnel and equipment and use caution traveling through the work zone.
Kiddie Pool/ Multi-Generational Project
The shoulder is closed on the North side of Canyon Road next to the Aquatics Center. Also, the sidewalk on the North side of Canyon Road next to the Nature Center is also closed. These closures are expected to continue through to the completion of the project in early 2022. Motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians and are advised to stay alert for construction personnel and equipment and use caution traveling through the work zone.
Other projects in the County:
NM502 Roundabout (State Dept. of Transportation, Star Paving)
Star Paving continues working to complete the roundabout on the eastern edge of Los Alamos. Work is estimated to wrap up within three months.
DP Rd (Work related to Canyon Walk Apts and The Bluffs)Qualcon Builders, LLC – 120 DP Road Utility Infrastructure Replacement and Roadway
Reconstruction Construction has continued through the winter months resulting in completion of the new utilities within the roadway. No other disruptions to Utility services on DP Road are anticipated. During the week of March 29, no construction activities are anticipated within DP Road. Remaining construction activities within DP Road are anticipated to restart the week of April 5. The Contractor is working in the right-of-way to replace existing utilities with upgraded services related to the new Canyon Walk Apartments (under construction) and The Bluffs senior housing (soon to be constructed). Remaining work includes completion of the storm drain work, the roadway reconstruction, including installation of curb and gutter, and sidewalks. All construction activities related to the reconstruction of DP Road are currently expected to be substantially completed by the end of April 2021.
