LAPS Establishes Scholarship In Memory Of Las Cruces Public Schools Supt. Karen Trujillo

Los Alamos Public Schools is deeply saddened by news of the death of Las Cruces Public Schools Supt. Dr. Karen Trujillo, who was struck and killed by a vehicle Thursday evening.

We join the other New Mexico school districts in offering our condolences to her family and the LCPS district as they navigate through this shocking and tragic loss.

Los Alamos Supt Kurt Steinhaus said, “Karen’s impact on education stretches to  every corner of our state.  She has been a true friend and colleague with the Los Alamos  Schools.  We have reached out to the family to assist in helping them find peace and to honor the  memory of Dr. Trujillo.”

Dr. Trujillo’s sister, Deborah Apodaca, lives in Los Alamos and has three children who attend the  Los Alamos Public Schools.  In honor of Karen Trujillo, a student scholarship fund has been established at the Los Alamos Schools Credit Union.  If you would like to contribute, please send a check to the Karen Trujillo Scholarship Fund, PO Box 887, Los Alamos, NM 87544. 100% of  the funds will go directly to a student scholarship.
