KIWANIS CLUB NEWS
Christmas is coming…. You need to go shopping and then deliver the gifts you have bought for family and friends—but the coronavirus pandemic is still with us, limiting shopping and personal contact of any kind.
The Kiwanis Club of Los Alamos might have just the answer you need: two ways to buy beautifully decorated boxes of See’s Candies—which can be bought, paid for, and delivered this year without requiring any “touching” from you.
Not only are See’s Candies delicious, but candy sales help the local Kiwanis club to pay for its service projects—things like youth organizations (Key Club at Los Alamos High School, Builders Club at Los Alamos Middle School, and K-Kids Clubs at Aspen, Barranca, and Chamisa Elementary Schools); college scholarships (eight in 2019 at a total cost to Kiwanis of $12,000); “Breakfast With Santa” at the beginning of the Christmas season; support of the Foster Children’s Christmas Party in Española; support of Family Night at the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC); the Kite Festival Pancake Breakfast, and many other good things.
Here’s how you do it:
If you are comfortable with computer shopping, you will be glad to hear that this year, Kiwanis has a “storefront” for See’s.
First, go to the local Kiwanis website losalamos.kiwanisone.org, find “See’s Candy Sales” in the blue box on the left, and click on it. Next, find the red “order” button and click on it.
Photos showing about 17 assortments of candy will appear. Each has a black “add to bag” box at the bottom. When you make a selection, click on the “add to bag” tag under the appropriate picture and it will be added to “Bag Checkout” at the upper right of the site. You can pay for your order by credit card or Pay Pal. Orders that cost $65 or more ship for free, and they can be shipped directly to your planned recipient.
Be aware, however: The storefront will close on Dec. 4 because Kiwanis wants to guarantee delivery by Christmas.
If you don’t care much for computer shopping, Kiwanis has another way for you to buy candy this year.
UPEX next to Bennett’s Fine Jewelry will help Kiwanis this year by showing and selling See’s Candies. Sales at UPEX will begin on Nov. 24. Here also, you can ask that the order be shipped directly to your planned recipient,.
Worried about “contact”? UPEX will have curbside pickup. Just call 662-3119, place your order, and then put on your mask and go get your boxes.
If you plan to buy at UPEX, buy as soon as possible on or after Nov. 24. The number of boxes on sale there will be limited.
And one other thing: Plan to buy at least one box of candy for yourself. You deserve it for “keeping Christmas” in such a difficult year.
