Due to COVID-19 Los Alamos Police Department personnel will not run the torch for Special Olympics this year. Special Olympics New Mexico has elected to stay with virtual runs. This decision has impacted raising money and awareness for Special Olympics athletes.
With this in mind, LAPD Cmdr. Oliver Morris will be selling Torch Run T-shirts from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the Farmer’s Market. The T-shirts are $20 each. Hats are also available for $25, challenge coins for $10 and pins for $5. Donations will also be accepted.
LAPD has traditionally run the longest route in the state – going from Los Alamos to Jemez Springs and their run is at one of the highest altitudes in the state. Anyone unable to attend the Farmer’s Market but would like to make a donation should call Cmdr. Morris, (505) 662-8281.
