This week Los Alamos High School is having Stay@Home-Coming instead of the traditional Homecoming festivities they normally celebrate. The theme for this year is, appropriately, CRUSH THE COVID! There’s still lots of spirit, though, and plenty of creativity to celebrate in style.
The students on the newly selected Stay@Home-Coming Court wanted to continue the tradition started last year during homecoming by giving back to a cause that’s important to them. This year, the Court is encouraging members of the community to donate to the Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation, specifically to fund teacher appreciation efforts for the 2020-2021 school year.
Senior Michaela Gonzales said “All the teachers at LAHS work super hard to make school a fun, interactive, learning environment for us students! They make such a big difference in our lives and the least we could do is to show our appreciation and show our thankfulness for everything they do- especially in this crazy time of adjustment and change!”
This is a hard year for everyone and especially our teachers as they navigate new ways of teaching, keeping themselves and students safe and making sure students are learning successfully. LAPS Foundation will be doing things throughout the year to raise teacher morale, show appreciation and safely encourage social connections for teachers.
The Stay@Home-Coming Court has set up a page to collect donations that will be used to fund teacher appreciation efforts. To contribute to Court for a Cause, visit lapsfoundation.com/court-for-a-cause.
Last year the community donated over $3,000 to ‘Court for a Cause’. Let’s show some Hilltopper Pride this year and CRUSH THE COVID by donating to support teachers!
