Land of Enchantment Wildlife Foundation has just received word that New Mexico Game and Fish officials have been called about a bear on 35th Street and Villa Street. This bear is currently treed and is no danger to anyone.
If you are close by, please leave the area and allow that bear to get out of the tree. Should New Mexico Game and Fish have to tranquilize the bear, it will be “relocated” and most likely will not survive. Please, if you live in the area, bring in all your waste and feeders. These only act as attractants and the bear will come back for the easy calories. Remember, a fed bear is a dead bear!
Remember that everyone can help keep bears alive and yourself safe. New Mexico Department of Game and Fish recommends the following six things you can do to help:
- Never feed or approach bears
- Secure food, garbage and recycling
- Remove bird feeders when bears are active
- Never leave pet food outside
- Clean and store grills
- Let neighbors know about recent bear activity
