LOS ALAMOS CREATIVE DISTRICT NEWS
Registration is now open for the Los Alamos ScienceFest 20×20 Art Challenge. The Los Alamos Creative District, Fuller Lodge Art Center, and the Los Alamos Arts Council are sponsoring this art competition designed to inspire and share creativity in the Los Alamos downtown area during this year’s ScienceFest, which will primarily be held virtually July 7–12. The art challenge will also serve as a fundraiser for the Los Alamos Arts Council.
The challenge is limited to the first 20 artists to register, costs $20 per entry, and spots are expected to fill quickly. After registration, each artist in the competition will be given a 20×20 inch panel on which to create something that highlights the 2020 ScienceFest Theme, “20/20: Eyes on the Future.” Artists will have four weeks to work on their project, and the deadline is June 27.
All submissions will be on display outdoors during ScienceFest along the sidewalks in the Creative District near Fuller Lodge. Judging of the art will take place on July 7, with awards and prizes given to the top choices in each category. Categories are Youth ages 7-12, Teens age 13-17, Adults 18+, and Family/Group (all living in the same household, in light of social distancing guidelines).
Prizes will include Chamber Checks, redeemable at dozens of local businesses, and a one-year membership to the Los Alamos Arts Council.
