COUNTY NEWS

Officials with the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities remind water customers that water rule W-8 begins this week on May 1 and continues through September 30.  The rule specifies that customers water outdoor landscapes before 10 a.m. or after 5 p.m. and adhere to an odd-even watering schedule.  Customers with odd numbered addresses should water on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays, while customers with even numbered addresses should water on Tuesdays, Thursdays or Saturdays.

Water waste is also prohibited under water rule W-8. Customers should apply water to landscapes in a manner that does not cause water to overflow or spray onto streets or sidewalks.  When washing vehicles, equipment or hard surfaces such as driveways, customers should have an automatic shut-off nozzle attached to the hose.  Find more information on water rule W-8 on the DPU website at: https://ladpu.com/WaterRuleW-8

“Spring and summer are when we see water usage drastically increase in Los Alamos,” explained Utilities Manager Philo Shelton. “While not part of water rule W-8, I want to point out that May is also when residential customers transition to a tiered rate until September.” Peak season tiered water rates for single family residential customers are $5.55 per 1,000 gallons up to 9,000 gallons; $5.90 per 1,000 gallons over 9,000 to 15,000 gallons; and $7.06 per 1,000 gallons above 15,000 gallons.  For multi-family customers, peak season tiered rates are $5.55 per 1,000 gallon up to 9,000; $5.84 per 1,000 gallons over 9,000 to 15,000; and $5.96 per 1,000 gallons above 15,000 gallons.  Visit DPU’s website for information on utility rates: https://rebrand.ly/DPU-RatesFees.

The Department of Public Utilities (DPU) operates the county-owned electric, gas, water & wastewater systems under the jurisdiction of the Board of Public Utilities. Board meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month at 5:30 p.m. and of course, the public is welcome. The DPU is funded by rates paid for electric, gas, water and wastewater services and auxiliary fees, and has provided the community with these services for more than 50 years. CustomerCare@lacnm.us | 505.662.8333 | www.ladpu.com/DPU
