Officials with the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) ask citizens to consider donating to the Utility Assistance Program (UAP); a program designed to assist qualifying Los Alamos neighbors and friends with utility bills. A donation option is now available through the DPU’s online payment processor: Paymentus. Look for the “Donate Now” button on the DPU website https://ladpu.com/utilities to give to the UAP and help those in need.
The program was created decades ago and focused solely on energy assistance. These past years, the Board of Public Utilities has approved broadening the program to include assistance for all utilities and to make it easier for customers to qualify. The UAP provides support to:
1) Low income customers during the months of October through March,
2) Year-round for low income citizens over age 65 or account holders qualified through the Social Security Administration for Supplemental Security Income (SSI), and
3) A single, lump sum credit to customers who demonstrate a need due to unforeseen circumstances.
Funding is donated voluntarily from customers with 100 percent of the donations being used to help eligible UAP applicants. To donate, visit the DPU website at: https://ladpu.com/utilities. For those DPU customers who are in need of assistance, call the Customer Care Center or visit the website at https://ladpu.com/PaymentOptions and click on the “Utilities Assistance Program.”
