LAMS PTO NEWS
Every March 14, mathematicians around the world celebrate Pi Day – 3.14 being the first three digits of the mathematical constant “Pi”. This year, Pi Day falls on a Saturday, so Los Alamos Middle School is celebrating Pi Day on Friday, March 13.
We need your help to make Pi Day a success at LAMS! There are two ways that you can help: Volunteer your time or Donate a pie.
Volunteer: The LAMS Parent Teacher Organization is recruiting volunteers to come to LAMS on Friday, March 13 to help with Pi Day. All we ask for is two hours of your time! No special knowledge is required, and we will provide the materials and training that you need to help run an activity table for a few students. Each student will visit the gymnasium during their science period, where we will have tables with math activities themed as “Pi-rates of the Caribbean.”
We have structured the day into four two-hour time slots starting at 7:45 a.m., 9:45 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. We also have a sign-up slot for volunteers available at other times. We also need a few volunteers to help set up the night before and clean up just afterwards. Please see here for the sign-up sheet for volunteers: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0949ada72da7fc1-pidaypirate1
Los Alamos National Laboratory employees may be eligible for science outreach community service time for this event. To apply for approval to use science outreach time, apply here (link only works from within LANL):

Donate a pie: We also need some donated supplies to make Pi Day successful – most notably we need PIES, which will be served to the students during their lunch period. In order to serve all of the students and staff one slice of pie, we need 90 pies. Pies should be pre-cut into 6-8 slices and dropped off at LAMS the morning of Friday, March 13.
The sign-up form to donate pies may be found here:
