You may have seen Los Alamos Fire Department folks sporting some neon pink and navy t-shirts during the last few days. For the ninth consecutive year, the International Association of Firefighters Local #3279 in Los Alamos is recognizing October as  Breast Cancer Awareness Month by raising funds for the New Mexico Cancer Center in Albuquerque.

The T-shirts, designed by Marisha Ballew of the LAFD administration staff, are for sale and also will be worn by LAFD personnel throughout October. They may be purchased at the LAFD Administration Offices at 999 Central Ave., Suite 200. The shirts are $10.50 if paying with a card or $10 cash.

The New Mexico Cancer Center provides monetary assistance to people for their non-medical needs while being treated for cancer. Last year, the Center helped dozens of patients with everything from hotel rooms while traveling for treatment to meals for patients and gasoline so that they could make it to their appointments. Quintana said all profits from sales of the T-shirts and any additional funds raised will be sent to help with this important cause.

For more information, call Marisha Ballew, 505-662-8310.
