Southwest Fishing ReportAlumni Pond: We had no reports from anglers this week. Bear Canyon Lake: Fishing for catfish was good at night using worms and homemade dough baits. Fishing for crappie was good. We had no reports on other species. Bill Evans Lake: Fishing for all species is reported as slow with only a few bass being caught. Caballo Lake: Fishing for white bass was good using minnows, crankbaits, curly tail grubs, spoons and sassy shad fished in 12 to 15 feet of water. Fishing for walleye was slow. Fishing for catfish was good using worms and chicken liver. Elephant Butte Lake: Fishing for white bass was good using live minnows and sassy shad. Fishing was good in the afternoon for largemouth and smallmouth bass on rocky flats, ledges and steady, rocky, angled declines using a dropshot in 15-25 feet with 4-inch finesse worms colored watermelon and green pumpkin. Fishing for walleye and crappie was slow. Fishing for catfish was good using cut carp, worms, minnows, homemade dough bait, hotdogs and chicken liver. Escondida Lake: Anglers report fishing as slow. Gila River: Stream flow on Monday morning was 27.4 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week. Glenwood Pond: We had no reports from anglers this week. Lake Roberts: Fishing is good for trout, bass and catfish in the far northwest area of the lake. Grey colored dry flies and yellow/gray streamer flies are both working well for trout and bass. Fishing for catfish is fair to good using beef liver. A few bass are also being caught using top water frog lures. Percha Dam: Fishing for all species was slow. Quemado Lake: Fishing for trout was fair using spinners, spoons and PowerBait. Rancho Grande Ponds: We had no reports from anglers this week. Rio Grande: Stream flow below Elephant Butte Monday morning was 2,250 cfs. Fishing below Elephant Butte was fair using curly tail grubs, sassy shad worms and minnows for walleye and white bass. Fishing was good using worms and homemade dough baits for catfish. Snow Lake: Fishing for trout was slow. Young Pond: Bluegill were recently stocked and fishing for them is anticipated to get better.
