CONCERT SERIES NEWS
It’s official, there’s something special happening each Friday night this summer in Los Alamos and New Mexico is abuzz. Continuing their ground breaking and historic line-up, the Los Alamos Summer Concert Series, Sancre Productions, Los Alamos County and Pebble Labs bring you Ozomatli this Friday, July 5.
The three-time GRAMMY® Award-winning, Los Angeles six-piece band consistently breaks boundaries with an uplifting and uniquely multi-cultural American world style. Ozomatli is an American band playing Latin, hip-hop, and rock music. Formed in 1995 in Los Angeles, they are known both for their vocal activist viewpoints and their wide array of musical styles including salsa, jazz, funk, reggae and rap. The concert is sponsored by Pebble Labs.
This Friday’s opening act features Nosotros. Nosotros is one of the most recognizable Latin bands in the Southwest United States. They have twice been featured on NPR’s Alt Latino, twice been named winners in the prestigious John Lennon Songwriting Competition, been awarded 12 NM Music Awards and have shared the stage with some of the biggest names in music.
This 9-piece, Latin music powerhouse, seamlessly combines Latin rhythms with elements of Rock, Salsa, Jazz and Cumbia creating an original sound that is unmistakably Nosotros. Nosotros has been drawing music lovers to their music for over 20 years. What began as a guitar trio in 1994, quickly took on a life of its own and developed and grew into something that no one could have predicted. The concert’s Youth Performance will feature a Mexican Ballet Folklorico dance performance by Moving Arts Espanola.
“We are proud to bring Ozomatli to Los Alamos for their debut performance at the Ashley Pond Pavilion” says Sancre Productions Spokeswoman Monica Griego. “Sancre Productions has been collaborating with Ozomatli for years and we’re overjoyed to bring their extraordinary musical talents to Los Alamos for the Fourth of July Holiday weekend.” As its seventh concert in the Series, the Sancre Productions team is working in tandem with various Los Alamos County Departments to ensure public safety, ADA accommodations, free parking and shuttle services and a diverse offering of Food Truck Vendors.
As usual, the Youth Performance starts at 6 p.m., Nosotros will perform at 6:30 p.m. and Ozomatli will perform at 8 p.m. The New Mexico Craft Distillery Garden will offer craft cocktails and beer from Rolling Still Distillery Bros., Bathtub Row Brewing Co-Op., and Santa Fe Brewing Company.
