Several slots remain open for a June 29 handgun shooting match being held by the Los Alamos Public Safety Association (LAPSA) to raise support for its the LAPSA Scholarship Fund.
The event will be held at the Los Alamos Sportsmen’s Club in Rendija Canyon and is designed to be both fun and challenging.
“Even if you have never formally competed with a handgun, you will be able to experience the rush of such competition,” a spokesman said.
The event will run all day and pizza will be delivered to participants for lunch.
The match fee is $50 which is 100 percent tax-deductible since LAPSA is an IRS-approved 501(c)3 charitable organization. Participants are required to provide their own handgun, ammunition, safety glasses and hearing protection.
In case of inclement weather, the back-up date for the event is Sunday, June 30.

The purpose of the Los Alamos Public Safety Association is to create a forum for senior managers who are actively involved in public safety-related positions within the Los Alamos Region to meet, discuss areas of mutual interest, recognize accomplishments in the public safety arena and consider such actions as may be in the mutual interest of the group to improve and coordinate public safety activities.
LAPSA also supports students attending the University of New Mexico Los Alamos campus byb granting scholarship funds to students majoring in fire science, law enforcement, security, medicine, and others related to the overall mission of public safety.
