Barranca Mesa Elementary School conducted a successful off-site evacuation and reunification drill Wednesday morning. Students were transported by bus to the First Baptist Church at 2200 Diamond Drive where they were reunited with their parents. School district staff and Los Alamos Police Department personnel were on hand to assist with the drill and Los Alamos County Traffic & Streets Division set up a special event zone to facilitate safe pick-up of children by parents. Members of the media were banned from the church property. LAPD Chief Dino Sgambellone said later he remains grateful for the Department’s partnership with Los Alamos Public Schools and the two entities’s commitment to public safety. “I’m thankful for the students, parents and staff that participated in the exercise,” he said.
