COUNTY NEWS

Los Alamos County Council during its Mar. 19 regular meeting proclaimed March 29 Vietnam War Veterans Day in Los Alamos County.  The proclamation was presented to Roberta Day Idzorek, Regent of the Valley Grande Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and reads as follows:

WHEREAS: March 29th of each year is designated National Vietnam War Veterans Day, to honor veterans who served in active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces from Nov. 1, 1955 to May 15, 1975, and the Council wishes to show its support for this special commemoration of our local Vietnam War Veterans; and

WHEREAS: The Department of Veterans Affairs estimates that today there are 6.4 million living Vietnam veterans and 9 million families of those who served during this time frame between 1955 and 1975. These men and women served in-country, in theater, or were stationed elsewhere during the Vietnam War period. All were called to serve and none could self-determine where they would serve; and

WHEREAS: Vietnam War Veterans Day is our special way of saying “thank you” to all Vietnam veterans and their families living in Los Alamos and White Rock, applauding their service and sacrifice; we especially recognize former prisoners of war and the families of those still listed as missing in action; and

WHEREAS: Commemorating March 29th each year as Vietnam War Veterans Day highlights the service of our Armed Forces and support organizations during the war. It pays tribute to wartime contributions made at home by our citizens, highlights technology, science and medical advances achieved during the war, and recognizes contributions from our Allies;

NOW, THEREFORE, on behalf of the Council of the Incorporated County of Los Alamos, I do hereby proclaim Friday, March 29, 2019 as “VIETNAM WAR VETERANS DAY” in Los Alamos and ask our citizens to observe this special date honoring our local Veterans.
