The Los Alamos Police Department is once again participating in the DEA Drug Take-Back initiative from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this coming Saturday, Oct. 27  by hosting an LAPD drug collection site.

LAPD officer will be on hand in the LAPD north parking lot at 2500 Trinity Drive.

“LAPD wants to encourage people to turn in unwanted or unused prescription medication for destruction,” Cmdr. Oliver Morris said. “This initiative is crucial to removing controlled medications that have a potential for theft or abuse.”

Cmdr. Morris said needles and liquid medications will NOT be accepted by LAPD.

In April of this year, more than 474 tons of unwanted or unused prescription drugs were collected nationwide as part of the DEA initiative.
