Los Alamos Little Theatre will hold auditions Nov. 12 and 14 for its biennial evening of short plays written by New Mexico playwrights.

Auditions will be held 6:30 pm Thursday, Nov. 12 and 1 pm, Saturday, Nov. 14, at the Performing Arts Center, 1670 Nectar Street.

This evening of eight 10-minute plays is an ideal opportunity for any first timers interested in dipping their toes into theatrical waters. It’s also been known to capture those who’ve been absent from the theater for a while and have hankered to come back. Maybe you had a bit part in a high school production and have always known you were capable of much, much more. Here’s your chance to return to the light fantastic and show the world (or at least a Los Alamos audience) what you’ve got.

“This show is called The 8x10s: Nine Lives,” said producer Emily Stark. “It will be the ninth time LALT has produced an evening of short plays. Many an LALT stalwart started with a part in an 8×10 show. It’s a perfect opportunity for first-time actors and directors. We have an outstanding collection of scripts and I know it’s going to be a great evening of entertainment.”

Persons who come to audition will be given a section of script to read from; no memorization required, just an enthusiasm for taking on a character’s persona and interacting briefly with other characters on stage.

The line-up for Nine Lives features:

Interview with the Glamper, written by Kelly Dolejsi, directed by Kaity Burke

Night of the Assassin, written by Seona Zimmerman, directed by Toni Flora

Nine Days and No Sidewalks, written by Cassandra Bowman, directed by Matt DeSmith

Photographs, written by Ryan Parker, directed by Cassandra Bowman

Sorry for Your Loss, written by Helen Rynaski, directed by Terry Beery

The Life of a Flea, written by Jef Bateman, directed by Allison Zastrow

This is Diane, written by Michael Burgan, directed by John Gustafson

Wands Have More Fun, written by Allison Fradkin, directed by Alex DiBranco

All scripts are available for review at the Public Mesa Library.

The 8x10s: Nine Lives will be performed January 22-31, 2027. For more information about the auditions or the show contact the8x10s@lalt.org
