Obituary: Michael Lyon Jan 4, 1943 – Oct. 25, 2026

Michael Lyon, beloved son, father, and grandfather, passed away of natural causes on Sunday, October 25, 2026.

Born in Tulsa, OK on January 4, 1943, Mike moved to Los Alamos when he was four years old. There, on top of the mesa, he found a place to call home. Mike was a quiet child growing up. He hit his stride academically, and attended University of New Mexico for his Bachelor’s of Business Administration. Soon after, he graduated with his Master’s degree from University of California, Berkley. This was his life’s proudest achievement, until he had his family.

For 12 years, Mike taught at Boise State College (now University). He then traded the halls of academia for a role in the corporate world. He moved to the Bay Area, CA, and worked as a Compensation Analyst in the semiconductor industry until his retirement. He always wanted to retire to LA, but when he first retired he wasn’t able to, so he went to Albuquerque. Eventually he was able to get back to Los Alamos, a lifelong Hilltopper, the place he always felt like was his home.

Mike is survived by his sons Greg Lyon and his wife Nikki, and Eric Lyon and his partner Leslie, his grandchildren Cleo and Tesia Lyon, and his great-grandchildren, Kaia and Cecia.

Burial is scheduled for November 21, 2026 at 11 am at Guaje Pines Cemetery, Los Alamos, NM. As part of a secular remembrance, we will allow anyone to share a few words. The burial will be followed immediately by lunch at Gabriel’s for those who want to attend and share memories of Mike.
