League of Women Voters of New Mexico Issues Correction To Published Voter Guide, Reaffirms Committment To Accurate Voter Information

LWVNM NEWS RELEASE

The League of Women Voters of New Mexico is issuing a correction to its published 2026 Voter Guide after identifying an error involving candidate photographs. The League has corrected the information in its online VOTE411.org voter guide and is taking steps to ensure voters have access to accurate, nonpartisan election information. The printed guide incorrectly featured a photograph of Nehemiah J. Vasquez, an independent candidate for District 5 of the Taos County Commission, in place of Larry Marker, the Republican candidate for US Senate. The error was identified after the published guides had entered production and could no longer be corrected before distribution.

The League promptly corrected the photograph in its online voter guide at VOTE411.org, as well as in the digital PDF versions available through its four local Leagues. The error was limited to the candidate photograph and did not affect the candidates’ responses or other information provided in the guide. In addition, the League is retrieving as many as possible of the erroneous printed guides that were previously distributed.

“Voters deserve accurate, reliable information when making decisions about their representation, and we take that responsibility seriously,” said Hannah Burling, president of the League of Women Voters of New Mexico. “We sincerely apologize to Mr. Marker and Mr.Vasquez for this error. Our commitment to voters is unwavering, and when mistakes happen,we believe in acknowledging them, correcting them, and taking steps to prevent them from happening again.”

For more than a century, the League of Women Voters has worked to empower voters with the information they need to participate confidently in our democracy. Providing trusted, nonpartisan election resources is central to that mission, and the League remains committed to maintaining the accuracy and integrity of its voter education materials. The League is reviewing its voter guide processes to reduce the likelihood of similar errors in the future. Voters are encouraged to visit VOTE411.org for the most up-to-date election information, including candidate responses, voting locations, and other resources to help them makeinformed decisions.
