“Wonder . . . a Journey Through Space and Time” is a retrospective of Marianne Hornbuckle’s 45 years of art life, mostly lived in north central New Mexico. The exhibit opens to the public Thursday, October 29 with an opening reception on Saturday, October 31 from 2:00- 3:30 pm. Marianne will give a Gallery Talk at 2:30 p.m. which will be recorded and available to view on Step Up Gallery’s YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCERx1XrO5N5NV4gE7bqm9Jw.
Marianne Hornbuckle has been a practicing professional artist for more than four decades, following a lifelong fascination with the mystery of the natural world, the human experience, and the unseen forces that connect us. Her early landscapes explored the extraordinary presence of the Southwestern landscape; later work turned toward the human figure, dreams, abstraction, and increasingly toward ideas of space, time, and the nature of reality.
In recent years Hornbuckle has immersed herself in books and lectures by physicists, captivated not by the mathematics, but by the questions they raise. In series including “The Fourth Dimension: Space/Time Dreams, Quantum Journal, and Imagining the Quantum,” scientific ideas and language enter her imagination and emerge transformed through paint.
Across these changing bodies of work, one theme has remained constant: wonder. Whether looking at a desert landscape, the human form, a dream, or the mysteries of space and time, Hornbuckle’s paintings invite viewers to pause before what cannot yet be fully understood. “Wonder: A Journey Through Space and Time” brings together works from across her artistic journey, tracing the questions, discoveries, and intuitive leaps that have shaped more than four decades of painting. Many examples of her work can be viewed on her website at: https://www.mariannehornbuckle.com.
