The Los Alamos Reporter reached out to Los Alamos County officials last week when residents began noticing the lack of activity at the Diamond Drive jobsite for the Los Alamos Fire Station 5 Replacement Project. No heavy equipment had been in operation for several days despite the dry weather conditions.

Public information officer David Krueger responded Wednesday that Spartan Construction, the County’s contractor for the $22.2. million project, had received a stop work order from the Department of Workforce Solutions on all of their New Mexico job sites as the Department conducts on investigation at a different job site in New Mexico.

“It sounds like standard practice by the Department of Workforce Solutions (DWS) and that DWS will be issuing a letter that Spartan can proceed with construction at Fire Station 4,” Krueger wrote.

Spartan’s manager for the project, Chrisopher Bailey, confirmed in a phone call Friday morning that the stop work order was lifted two days ago and crews are already restarting their work on-site.
