LAPD NEWS RELEASE

This October, the Los Alamos Police Department and staff are adding a little pink to the badge and a lot of heart to the uniform in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month!

“Serving and protecting our community goes beyond answering calls for service. It means showing up for our neighbors, supporting causes that matter, and reminding those facing difficult challenges that they are not alone,” said Deputy Chief James Rodriguez.

Officers and staff are showing their support by wearing pink-inspired shirts, patches, and badges to help raise awareness about breast cancer and recognize the individuals, families, survivors, and caregivers whose lives have been affected by the disease.

While our officers are known for wearing blue, this month, pink is making a special appearance. From pink patches to awareness-inspired badges, these small changes carry a big message: Our community is stronger when we stand together.

Breast cancer affects individuals and families in communities everywhere. The Los Alamos Police Department hopes this show of support sparks conversations, encourages awareness, and reminds everyone to make time for their health and follow recommended screening guidance from their healthcare providers.

A special shout-out goes to Detective Cindy Garcia, who spearheaded this effort and helped bring the department’s pink-themed support to life. From coordinating the initiative to acquiring the shirts, patches, and badges, Detective Garcia helped make sure the department could show its support in a meaningful and visible way.

Our officers may be trading a little blue for pink, but one thing never changes: our commitment to the people of Los Alamos.

So, if you spot an officer sporting a splash of pink this month, know that there is a purpose behind the color. It is a simple way to show support, spread awareness, and remind our community that behind every badge is a person who cares.
