Our October Lunch with a Leader will be on Thursday the 15th, 11:45-1pm at the Unitarian Fellowship Hall on N. Sage Loop. Please think about inviting friends who are not yet a LWV member. S/he can order a lunch that is mentioned below ( and just pay, as everyone does at the meeting). Of course, your friend/s can bring their own lunch. This event is always open to everyone in our community. Our speaker Maggie Meier, works with the Interfaith Coalition on Homelessness and will be talking about her experience of learning about homelessness.

If you want to bring clean clothing ( jackets, sweaters, coats, pants, shirts, etc) or general supplies, such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, new underwear, feminine products, bandages, blankets, etc., you can bring things in plastic bags and there will also be boxes at the church. This is just if you have things that you want to give away.

Maggie grew up in Los Alamos and was good friends with many of the kids who attended Los Alamos Public Schools in the 80’s and 90’s.

After graduating from UC San Diego with degrees in genetics and comparative religion, she taught adult literacy in inner-city Chicago, went to grad school at Fordham in New York, and came back to Chicago to teach theology to high schoolers. She met her husband at their 20th high school reunion and joined him in South Carolina where Benjamin was born. In late 2018, they moved back to Los Alamos, drawn by the proximity to family, a good schooling system, and the stark beauty of New Mexico. Throughout her wanderings across the US, she has reflected on poverty, prejudice, and what amazing things happen when people work together. These musings spurred her most recent venture, acting as an educator for the Interfaith Coalition on Homelessness. She said she is grateful for the opportunity to share her journey of learning about homelessness with us.
