County Emergency Management Now Accepting Applications For Preparedness Team

\COUNTY NEWS RELEASE

Los Alamos County Emergency Management (OEM) is now accepting applications for a Los Alamos Community Preparedness Team (LACPT). LACPT is a non-emergency volunteer program focused on building a skilled network of local volunteers who support a culture of preparedness.

The LACPT program provides a structured approach for preparing residents to assist with community outreach, preparedness initiatives, and, when requested, support during emergencies/disasters in a non-response role capacity. OEM aims to create a well-trained, diverse, and organized network of volunteers dedicated to enhancing local preparedness and resilience. Members will help increase public awareness of emergency preparedness, support local events, assist with logistics and controller roles during exercises, and serve in non-response roles during Emergency Operations Center (EOC) activations.

LACPT is not intended to serve as a first responder organization. No prior emergency management experience is required. Individuals of all backgrounds and experience levels are encouraged to apply. Applicants must live in Los Alamos County and be 18 years old to apply for the program. The program operates under the guidance of OEM and will train and equip volunteers as needed. Participation is always voluntary and based on team members’ willingness and capacity to help.

All prospective members must:

  1. Complete and submit the Membership Request Form and review and agree to the terms and conditions outlined in County’s Volunteer Policy.
  2. Review, sign and submit the liability waiver (renewed annually).
  3. Complete the required prerequisite FEMA Independent Study courses.
  4. Once accepted into the program, volunteers must complete the LACPT Basic Training.

Apply with the online form or submit a completed PDF application via email to LACPreparednessTeam@losalamosnm.gov.

  • Application Deadline: October 21, 2026
  • Basic Training: Saturday, November 14, 2026
