LVWLA NEWS RELEASE
Please join the League of Women Voters of Los Alamos as we host the 2026 nonpartisan Candidate Forum on Thursday, October 1, at 7:00 p.m. in the UNM-LA Student Center (Lobo Center) in Building 2. Come at 6:30 p.m. for refreshments and the opportunity to chat with the candidates.
The Candidates
Four unopposed candidates will speak and answer questions: Representative Christine Chandler, NM House District 43 (the district that includes Los Alamos and White Rock), Magistrate Judge Catherine Taylor, Municipal Judge Elizabeth Allen, and Probate Judge Perry Klare. Sheriff candidate Antonio Maggiore is unable to attend.
Six candidates for County Council will introduce themselves and answer questions: Libertarian Chris Luchini, Republican Jason Chappel, and Democrats Theresa Cull, David Hampton, Melanee Hand, and Steve Lynne. Republican Eric Stromberg is unable to attend.
We will also hear from the two candidates for County Assessor, Jeff Casalina, Democrat and James Wernicke, Libertarian.
As always at our LWV-LA Forums, members of our Los Alamos High School Hill Talkers will be our timekeepers.
The Voter Guide
Finally, don’t forget to consult the LWV Voter Guide for unedited candidate responses to questions of interest to our community and information about the Constitutional and Charter amendments, as well as the bond questions that will be on the ballot.
