Santa Fe County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Hwy 84/285 regarding a motor vehicle accident with injuries at 7:34 a.m. Wednesday. Upon deputies’ arrival, injured parties were being treated by medical personnel from the Santa Fe County Fire Department.

A 74-year-old woman injured in the crash succumbed to her injuries at the scene. A second individual, a 77-year-old male was transported to Christus St. Vincent Hospital where he also succumbed to his injuries sustained in the crash.

Preliminary information indicates that a vehicle traveling south in the southbound lane left the roadway and struck the two individuals who were located outside of their parked vehicle on the shoulder of the highway. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

Names will not be released until next of kin have not been notified.

The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Division is currently investigating the cause of the crash. This is an active and ongoing investigation.
