New Mexico has completed a three‑day statewide forum focused on improving information sharing and strengthening Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance across agencies.

The 2nd Annual CJIS Compliance & Governance Forum, held Sept. 9–11 at the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy and online, brought together law enforcement officers, corrections and detention staff, dispatchers, Terminal Agency Coordinators (TACs), IT teams and agency administrators for hands‑on training led by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) and federal partners – with over 300 in attendance.

The forum offered hybrid participation and fulfilled mandatory annual training requirements for TACs, TACs assistants and Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act registrars. DPS hosts the forum to educate public safety partners and law enforcement on compliance requirements, provide information related to officer safety, and facilitate access to CJIS systems and other information services.

“The collaboration we saw this year shows how powerful it is when agencies come together to solve real challenges,” said Jessica Mascareñas, New Mexico’s CJIS systems officer. “Every attendee – no matter their role or agency size, walked away with something useful. Whether it was hands‑on instruction, direct access to federal experts or answers to complex reporting questions. There truly was something for everyone.”

Training throughout the forum included National Crime Information Center operational foundations, CJIS, Security Policy 6.1 updates, National Instant Criminal Background Check System, National Data Exchange, Virtual Command Center, National Threat Operations Section information sharing, criminal history and disposition reporting, validation demonstrations and National Incident‑Based Reporting System, use‑of‑force reporting, and officer safety.

Attendees also participated in breakout sessions covering fingerprinting, palm‑printing and TAC instruction.
