LALT NEWS RELEASE
Los Alamos Little Theatre is excited to announce “The One Acts,” a night of theater including two shorter-length plays.
Anton Chekhov’s “The Proposal,” directed by Ken Milder, is a one-act farce that satirizes the materialistic and quarrelsome nature of the 19th-century Russian landowning class. It is a short, hilarious, and practical short story about two wealthy neighbors with the goal of expanding their wealth through marriage.
“The Proposal” stars Cary Bronson as Lomov, Allison Zastrow as Natalya, and Kelly Dolejsi as Chubakov.
Emily Stark directs “Overtones,” Alice Gerstenberg’s most famous play, a hilarious one-act that explores the dynamic between two women, played by four actors. The “outer selves” present themselves as sophisticated, if not a little catty, women that have known each other since childhood and treat each other with the expected respect. Their “inner selves” have no such requirement, speaking exactly what’s on their mind be it about love, money, or cake.
“Overtones” stars Kelsey Dennissen as Harriet, Paige Ramsey as Margaret, Kaity Burke as Hetty, and Allison Zastrow as Maggie. Burke also designed the show’s logo and poster.
Technical Director Hadley Hershey and Set Designer Katy Korkos created the period-piece set for both plays. Producer Patrick Webb, Stage Manager Bonnie Kiang, Costume Master Pam Justice, Props Master Sue Tonelli, and many other LALT volunteers have made “The One Acts” a fabulous night out.
The complete production, approximately 90 minutes long, is appropriate for audiences of all ages. Families and young theater-goers are welcome. As always, parents and guardians are encouraged to consider their individual child’s comfort with live theater and ability to remain seated for the duration of the performance.
Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays Sept. 11, 12, 18, 19, 25, and 26 at the Performing Arts Center, 1670 Nectar St., with a 2 p.m. matinee Sunday, Sept. 20. The house will open 30 minutes before the show begins.
Tickets, at $20, and are available at the door and online right now at https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/
