Ongoing & Planned Operations: Scattered showers and thunderstorms brought additional moisture and widespread lightning to the area on Monday. While acreage on the Frijoles Fire increased yesterday, fire activity remains largely within the existing footprint, with some growth occurring in the southeast portion of the fire area, near the Frijoles drainage.
Today brings another chance for afternoon storms before hotter, drier conditions return later in the week. As conditions allow, crews will focus on reinforcing work conducted in communities impacted by the fire as additional resources remain prepared to respond to new starts, should the need arise.
Air Quality & Smoke: Smoke will be less noticeable today than yesterday, thanks to recent rains and cloud cover. Some smoke will make its way into the valley, west of the fire overnight. Nambe and Espanola are likely to stay low enough to maintain Good air quality. Mora will also see some smoke, but the amount will also stay low enough to maintain Good air quality. Weather: Monsoonal moisture will remain over the area today. Temperatures will reach the upper 80s to around 90 degrees at lower elevations, with cooler conditions at higher elevations.
Evacuations & Closures: As of Saturday, August 29, Cundiyo, Cerro Pinon, and Borrego Mesa have changed to ready status. There are currently no areas of Santa Fe or Rio Arriba counties in set or go status associated with the Frijoles Fire. Residents should remain prepared and continue monitoring official updates, as the fire remains active and conditions may change.
The following closures remain in effect: NM 503 remains restricted to residents and emergency personnel in the affected area. A temporary forest area closure remains in effect on the Santa Fe National Forest, including the Pecos Wilderness area in the Espanola Ranger District. Additionally, there is a Temporary Road Closure Order affecting FR 306, from the intersection of FR 440 and FR 306, west to the Forest Boundary and FR 306.
