Latest Update: Hot, dry conditions bring increased fire activity and visible smoke to portions of the Frijoles Fire. Firefighters are securing containment lines to protect nearby communities, while remaining prepared for new wildfire starts.
Ongoing & Planned Operations: On Friday, aircraft assigned to the Frijoles Fire assisted with initial attack, responding to two new reports of smoke in the area. In the Pecos Wilderness, firefighters completed fireline to the Frijoles drainage, providing a containment feature along this portion of the fire.
Today, firefighters are patrolling containment lines and extinguishing hot spots across the fire area. In the north and northeast, work remains focused on protecting nearby communities and other important values, including watersheds that feed reservoirs and acequias relied upon by surrounding communities. Initial attack resources remain available to assist with new wildfire starts and support neighboring incidents as needed.
Air Quality & Smoke: Skies may be hazy today and tomorrow from numerous fires in the region, but the air quality index should remain in the good range. Tonight, some smoke may settle into the drainages near the fire and valleys, but conditions should improve by late tomorrow morning. More information is available at https://outlooks.airfire.org/
Weather: Hot and dry conditions continue today, with temperatures in the upper-80s and afternoon humidity falling to the teens. Chances for late afternoon showers and thunderstorms will increase slightly across the fire area.
Evacuations & Closures: In Santa Fe County, all of Cundiyo, Cerro Piñon, and the Borrego Mesa area (near Forest Roads 440 and 306) are in “Set” status. Nambe Pueblo Lake remains in “Ready” status (https://www.santafecountynm.

A road closure is in effect for NM 503 between County Road 98 and State Road 76. Visitors are encouraged to avoid the fire area and use caution when traveling near firefighting operations. A temporary forest area closure is also in effect on the Santa Fe National Forest, including the Pecos Wilderness area in the Espanola Ranger District. Additionally, there is a Temporary Road Closure Order affecting FR 306, from the intersection of FR 440 and FR 306, west to the Forest Boundary and FR 306.
