Operational Update: This morning, several surrounding communities experienced moderate air quality after thunderstorm outflow winds moved smoke into areas overnight. Air quality improved during the afternoon as skies cleared, and smoke dispersed around the fire area.
Firefighters improved containment lines along the northern and western portions of the fire. Crews were flown into the southwestern portion of the fire and made good progress working south along the fire’s edge. Recent rainfall has moderated fire behavior in some areas, creating opportunities for firefighters to implement a direct extinguishment strategy. As anticipated thunderstorms moved through the area, crews maintained situational awareness, adjusted operations as needed, and worked toward their assigned objectives while prioritizing firefighter safety. North of the fire, crews also scouted and constructed contingency lines as part of a multilayered strategy to protect surrounding communities.
Additional resources continue to arrive at the incident. Drivers should be alert for fire equipment, vehicles and obey all road closures, and use caution when traveling through the area. Smoke may affect nearby communities and roadways. Current air-quality and smoke information is available at fire.airnow.gov.
