Operational Update: Firefighters continued implementing a full-suppression strategy to limit fire growth while prioritizing public and firefighter safety. Crews made good progress securing the western flank and supporting protection efforts for nearby communities. Helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft, coordinated through aerial supervision, strategically applied retardant in approved areas to slow fire spread and support ground operations. Crews also continued improving contingency lines to the north while evaluating and constructing additional control features in other areas.
Throughout the incident, designated resources have been assigned for initial attack on any new fires reported in the surrounding area. This added capacity supports local resources and allows personnel assigned to the fireline to stay engaged with their work assignments.
Fireline supervisors are developing detailed plans to safely access and engage the more remote eastern and southern portions of the fire, including the establishment of spike camps. These remote camps would support extended operational periods by reducing travel time between the fireline and the incident base.
We sincerely appreciate the community’s generosity and desire to support firefighters. As a federal incident management team, we are fully supported and unable to accept donations. Please visit our social media pages for information about local organizations and locations that can accept donations.
