Lost Almost Triathlon to Support the Future of East Park Pool

BY JAMES WERNICKE

East Park Pool will host the Lost Almost Triathlon on Sunday, September 13, 2026. The race will start at 10:00 a.m at the Canyon Rim Trailhead by the Los Alamos Cooperative Market. Entry is $50 for adults and $25 for youth. Visit eastparkpool.org/triathlon or email info@eastparkpool.org for more info.

This is not only a triathlon for the community, but a fundraiser to help ensure that East Park Pool can open for the 2027 season and continue serving Los Alamos families for years to come.

Since 1962, East Park Pool has provided generations of local families with a place to swim, learn, and gather throughout the summer. Like many community institutions, however, the pool has faced increasing financial challenges in recent years. Proceeds from the Lost Almost Triathlon will directly support the pool and its continued operation.

The course is designed to challenge athletes and welcome community members who just want to participate in a good cause. Racers can choose between two courses:

  • Sprint: 20 km bike, 300 m swim and 5 km run
  • Super Sprint: 5 km bike, 100 m swim and 1-mile run

The race will also include an adaptive course option, helping make the event accessible to a broader range of athletes.

East Park Pool is seeking volunteers to help make race day possible. Volunteers are needed for course support, transition areas, athlete check-in, aid stations, traffic and trail monitoring, timing, communications, setup, cleanup and other race-day activities. No triathlon experience is necessary.

East Park Pool is also seeking community sponsorships and partnerships. Sponsoring organizations help offset costs and will receive recognition—including their logo on a commemorative beach towel showing their support for health, recreation, and quality of life in Los Alamos long after race day. Partnering community organizations can receive a portion of the entry fee for referring participants.

The goal is to bring the community together for a day of outdoor recreation while helping preserve a Los Alamos institution for the next generation.
