The many fans that Max Gomez has won in Los Alamos since he made this town part of his regular tour stops beginning in 2015 will be surprised to learn he will be playing in one of our warmer months. Gomez regularly sells out his holiday show at Fuller Lodge weeks in advance of that annual event, but has not played on the hill in the dog days of summer. That will change on August 23 when Gomez stops in town with Howe Gelb and Slant Can.
The show will be held on the lawn at The Hans Bethe House and will feel relatively relaxed with music starting a bit earlier and audience members being asked to bring their own chairs or blankets and drinks. Doors open at 5 p.m. with show starting at 6:00 p.m.
In August of last year, Gomez released his third album, Memory Mountain, winning praise from both Rolling Stone and No Depression magazines. The album debuted at #1 on the Alt-Country Radio Chart and Max played many of those new songs for those lucky enough to get a ticket to his holiday show at Fuller Lodge.
“I hope all those who have missed out on tickets to the holiday shows will turn out to see Max and his friends in a space where we can fit more folks,’ said Jonathan Lathrop, President of Live in Los Alamos. “We can only sell about 120 seats at Fuller Lodge and those go pretty quickly. With the space we have outdoors at the Bethe House we can fit many more people, more comfortably, and even drop the price a bit!”
Asked about the other artists on the bill, Lathrop admits that he’s not certain what to expect.
“You will read that Howe Gelb and Slant Can are ‘desert rock and alt-country superstars,’ but I
think those categories must have incredible elasticity when I listen to how diverse their sound is. I just know that we are going to have four extraordinary musicians on the stage in many different incarnations that evening.”
