LAFD NEWS RELEASE

Fire Marshal Colorado Cordova with the Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) has announced all fire restrictions in Los Alamos County are lifted, effective July 28, 2026. The decision comes after careful evaluation of recent rainfall, fuel moisture levels, fire activity, and current and forecasted weather conditions. 

With the lifting of restrictions, residents and visitors are now welcome to enjoy outdoor activities at County parks and developed campsites. Campfires and charcoal grills are once again permitted. However, Fire Marshal Cordova strongly encourages everyone to practice caution and common sense to reduce the risk of human-caused wildfires. 

Additionally, while fire restrictions have been lifted in Los Alamos County, individuals visiting areas outside of the county still need to comply with fire restrictions set by local, state and federal authorities, including Pueblos and other counties. These measures are crucial to preventing fire incidents and safeguarding the community and its natural resources.
