Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) invites you to a DIY Rain Barrel Workshop, on Thursday July 30, 2026, from 6 to 7:30 PM MT at the Los Alamos Nature Center. Rain barrels will be upcycled from used recycling bins to help reduce waste. The workshop costs $40 and materials are included. This workshop is in collaboration with the Department of Public Utilities. While these barrels provide an excellent way to collect water for future use, the water will not be safe for drinking by humans or animals.

The workshop will begin with a presentation on the basics of rain barrel safety, installation, and maintenance before the distribution of EarthMinded DIY Rain Barrel Kits. These kits include the parts needed to assemble the rain barrel and flexible divertor to prevent overflows, but do not include tools. If possible, please bring a drill from home if you plan to assemble your rain barrel at the Nature Center. Participants are also welcome to attend the beginning of the workshop but assemble their rain barrel at home. Each household will be responsible for transporting their barrel from the Nature Center and installing it in their home.

Please note that collected rainwater is not safe for drinking by humans or animals.
