The New Mexico State Police is providing an update in the ongoing investigation into the disappearance and death of Cordova resident Jeanette Salazar.

During the early morning hours of Thursday, July 9, 2026, New Mexico State Police responded to a report from a male who stated he had been shot during a carjacking and that his girlfriend, Jeanette Salazar, was still inside the vehicle when it was taken. As the investigation progressed, agents determined Salazar had been forcibly taken, and the New Mexico State Police issued a Missing Endangered Alert.

That same day, the New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau arrested Danny Trujillo and Marcos Romero, both charged with multiple felonies.

On Monday, July 13, 2026, human remains were discovered near the Cordova Transfer Station. On Friday, July 17, 2026, through coordination with the Office of the Medical Investigator (OMI), the remains were positively identified as Jeanette Salazar. The official cause and manner of death determination from the Office of the Medical Investigator is still pending.

The New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau continues to actively investigate this case. Additional charges may be filed as the investigation progresses.

The New Mexico State Police extends its deepest condolences to Jeanette Salazar’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.
