COUNTY NEWS RELEASE
The Los Alamos Public Library is hosting an author talk and story reading with Sage Vogel on Saturday, July 18, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Mesa Public Library.
Vogel will read from his debut collection “Dichos en Nichos.” This collection is a series of interconnected stories in English. Each story is inspired by a “dicho,” a regional folk saying or proverb in English and in Spanish, that influences the characters and storyline. A “nicho,” an oil painting set into an antique frame, was created by renowned Southwest artists Christen Vogel and Jim Vogel and is shared in print alongside each of the stories of the book.
This unique presentation of stories explores a fictional 1950s Northern New Mexico village and the colorful characters and events that unfold between them. Themes of community, love, and identity immerse the reader in this setting and carry the reader along in page-turning descriptions of the arroyos, adobe home, and dirt roads of village life.
The book “Dichos en Nichos” is available at both library branches and is one of the book club selections at the library. Groups and clubs may borrow many copies from the library to share the experience and read together.
All programs at the library are free and open to the public. Visit LosAlamosLibrary.org or visit us in person to find more details on all programs like the Silent Book Club, Writers Group and several programs created especially for teens.
