Did you enjoy the story of Project Hail Mary, question? Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) invites you to dive deeper with, “The Science of Project Hail Mary,” on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, from 7 to 8 PM MT at the Los Alamos Nature Center Planetarium. This light hearted presentation is sure to amuse scientists and science fiction fans alike.
Learn more about Andy Weir’s book and Los Alamos native, Drew Goddard’s screenplay. Does Rocky’s planet exist, question? What was Weir’s inspiration for non-water based lifeforms? What did they change between the book and the film? Find out! This program, led by fans of the book and movie, is aimed at general audiences,including older children.
Warning: there will be spoilers if you haven’t read the book or seen the movie!
About Project Hail Mary
Published in 2021 by American science fiction writer Andy Weir, Project Hail Mary follows Ryland Grace as he wakes up on a spaceship with no memory of how he got there. The book was a finalist for the 2022 Hugo Award for Best Novel and won the 2022 Audie Award for Audiobook of the Year. In 2026, a movie adaptation of the book was released, bringing the epic adventure to the big screen. The film also received rave reviews while enchanting audiences around the world.
