Personal Safety Recommendations
- Identify Scams: Be skeptical of requests for money, gift cards, or cryptocurrency
that demand immediate action. - Prevent AI Cloning: Establish a family code word to verify the identity of loved
ones during suspicious calls. - Verify Contacts: Never use phone numbers provided by unsolicited callers. Hang
up and dial the official number found on a trusted website or the back of your bank
card. - Secure Accounts: Protect your digital data by using strong passwords and MultiFactor Authentication (MFA).
- Avoid Simple Assault: Avoid volatile situations entirely when practical. If not,
utilize active bystander intervention, practice de-escalation techniques, and
establish clear boundaries.
If you receive a suspicious call, email, or encounter a volatile situation, you can contact
the Los Alamos Police Department directly at 505-662-8222.
