PEEC NEWS RELEASE

Bee City Los Alamos and PEEC invite volunteers to join Pollinator Garden Maintenance at Los Alamos County Golf Course. The maintenance will take place July 8 from 6 – 7:30 PM. Participants need to sign up at volunteerlosalamos.org.

Please meet in front of the main golf course building near the golf carts. Bee City Los Alamos is committed to pollinator conservation with activities that support the expansion of pollinator habitats like the pollinator area at the golf course.

In the fall of 2025, volunteers helped sow a 7,000 sq ft area in the golf course affectionately referred to as the “Bermuda Triangle” between holes one, three, and four. With the support of golf course staff, the area has been watered and there are now many plants that have sprouted in the area, including the native wildflowers and grasses that were sown in the fall. However there are also a lot of weeds! Our goal with this event is to reduce the weeds in order to encourage the native wildflowers and grasses to thrive, creating valuable habitat for our native pollinators including bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.

About Bee City
Bee City Los Alamos is an affiliate of Xerces Bee City USA. The program encourages pollinator education and works to provide the needed tools to support pollinator conservation. Plants are provided free of charge. Recipients are responsible for planting, watering, weeding, and caring for plants once received. Recipients of a pollinator garden kit are also invited to support Bee City Los Alamos’ pollinator conservation efforts by volunteering 3 hours of time.
