I am writing in support of Stephanie Garcia Richard for Lieutenant Governor, and to encourage the Democratic State Central Committee to choose her as the Democratic candidate for Lieutenant Governor, now that this position has become vacant after the primary.
Here in Los Alamos, we know how great Stephanie was as our Representative in the state legislature, understanding local, state and national issues and concerns, and working with her colleagues to enact effective legislation. And, as Commissioner of Public Lands, she has done a great job statewide to protect our environment, and resources, promote green energy development, grow our investments, and increase the funds available for public schools. She knows our state, and our communities, and what we need going forward. She knows how to work with legislators and agencies at all levels of government. She’s also a great campaigner, and has won fiercely contested statewide elections.
Stephanie is ready and willing to serve as Lieutenant Governor. As many of us know, she started running for that office, but suspended her campaign only because of her need to help care for serious health problems in a family member (while at the same time continuing to serve effectively as Land Commissioner, of course). Now that those health problems have stabilized, and now that the LG nominee slot has become vacant after the primary, Stephanie Garcia Richard is the perfect candidate to run to be our next Lieutenant Governor. Deb Haaland has endorsed her, and they will make a great team, both in the campaign and for leading New Mexico for the next 4 (or 8) years.
