Dear Friends:
A big thanks to all who contributed and helped to make our Silent Auction Fundraiser Dinner a success!

Please mark your calendars for the following events:

  1. July 4th barbecue, 11am–1pm at Rover Park in White Rock. Bring a side dish or dessert to share.
  2. July 8th, 10 am–12 pm at Fiori e Sale, “Coffee with our Council Candidates.” This is an opportunity to ask questions and share your concerns with Eric Stromberg and Jason Chappell. Invite your friends and neighbors!

At this past Tuesday’s County Council meeting, I applauded Councilor Reagor’s votes against the water rate increase and against our County’s $2.1M investment for government surveillance over its citizens. I fully agree with Jim Rickman’s recent editorial, “Don’t Join the Flock”.

Our County is about to give $4M in free money and a $2M interest-free loan for the CB Fox renovation and $400K in free money and an $868K interest -free loan for the Time Out Pizza renovation. Citizens are right to ask, “What is being done to ensure that the public is not on the hook for business failures and loan defaults?” and “Is our County staff picking winners and losers behind closed doors?” A local business owner asks, “Where was the County when my business was failing?”

It is clear that we need a return to the principles of fiscal responsibility and limited government. A government is more efficient, well-run, less corrupt, and serves its citizens best when it is limited in size and scope. If our County was more focused on the basics, we may have avoided the Gross Receipts Tax and utility rate increases!

On a positive note, the Faith and Community Series free movie will be “I Still Believe” at 4 p.m. on July 11at SALA Event Center.
