It’s almost July already, and the Arts Council is having fun in the sun! Our small but mighty team is up to everything from educational lectures on indigenous murals to Self Stewardship workshops. - Summer Camp is here! The first four weeks of camp have been AMAZING! Our camps are intended for rising first graders through rising sixth graders, and are offered in both the morning and the afternoon. Camps are themed differently each week for a wide variety of art-based fun, and range from Underwater Adventures to Theater Camp! - RECENT CAMP ADDITIONS: We are excited to have just launched new family, teen, and ceramics camps this summer! Featuring themes like Whimsify Your Wardrobe, Plein Air Painting, and Wheel Throwing, these week-long* camps are perfect for the post-elementary youth in your life. - Daytime Performance Series: Indigenous Murals of New Mexico ft. Robin Dunitz: The Arts Council is proud to present a colorful Powerpoint presentation by Robin Dunitz that will feature more than 50 murals by Indigenous artists found throughout New Mexico, from historic paintings by pioneers Pablita Velarde and Pop Chalee in Albuquerque to more contemporary work beautifying walls in cities, small towns and on tribal lands. Background information on the artists will further enrich the show. This event is free and open to the public. No registration is required. - Exhibit CLOSING July 3rd: The 4th Annual Come As You Are show will close on Friday, July 3rd. Come celebrate community art, and look forward to our show with the Plein Air Painters of New Mexico opening September 11th!
- The Art of Self Stewardship: The Arts Council will host a workshop facilitated by local educator Kristine Coblentz designed for women who are experiencing or are recovering from chronic stress and burnout to develop a practice of mindful, creative self-stewardship. Participants will create handmade journals for practicing simple art techniques and noting insights during the 4 week class, and will leave the workshop with their own mindful making kit. - Samizdat Summer Crafting Series: We are proud to offer free activities for teens and families this summer! Join us Thursdays from 6-8 PM at Samizdat Bookstore & Teahouse for themed events including Junk Journaling and more! Thanks to the Los Alamos Teen Center for sponsoring this series of events. About us: the Los Alamos Arts Council is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that operates out of the Fuller Lodge Art Center in downtown Los Alamos. LAAC programs a gallery and gift shop space, education programs including a summer camp, and several cultural programs on an annual basis, including arts and crafts fairs, a kite festival, and many, many more.
