YMCA NEWS RELEASE
The Family YMCA will host its annual Firecracker 5K Family Fun Run and Community Parade on Saturday, July 4, 2026. Temporary road closures and traffic control measures will be in place to ensure the safety of participants and spectators.
Canyon Road will be closed from 15th Street to Central Avenue, continuing to the Los Alamos High School parking lot to Diamond Drive, from approximately 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. for the Firecracker 5K Family Fun Run.
Traffic control will also be in place on:
- 15th Street from Iris Street to Canyon Road
- Canyon Road from Central Avenue to Los Alamos High School
Following the race, a free community parade will begin at 10:00 a.m. after a flag ceremony by the flagpole outside The Family YMCA. It will travel along Central Avenue toward Fuller Lodge Lawn and end at the grassy area behind the Y Express in Central Park Square. Motorists should expect brief traffic delays in the downtown area during parade activities.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to plan ahead and use alternate routes when possible during these times.
The Firecracker 5K Family Fun Run, Community Parade, and America’s 250th Birthday Celebration are open to the public and are part of The Family YMCA’s Fourth of July festivities.
