NMED will host a public information session to provide an update on the hexavalent chromium plume cleanup occurring at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). In 2005 it was discovered that a portion of the groundwater beneath LANL is contaminated with hexavalent chromium resulting from legacy waste from operations dating back to the 1950s.

Since the discovery of the plume, NMED’s Hazardous Waste Bureau and Ground Water Quality Bureau have been regulating the investigation and cleanup of the hexavalent chromium groundwater. NMED will provide some background then dive into updates about the hexavalent chromium plume and cleanup status.

Should you need additional information regarding the public meeting, please contact Caitlin Martinez at Caitlin.martinez@env.nm.gov or at (505) 490-5280.
