It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of David Bracken on June 8, 2026, at his home, surrounded by the love that meant so much to him.
Born on June 28, 1964, in Cohoes, NY, David Bracken lived a life defined by determination, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to doing what he believed was right. A gifted nuclear physicist by profession, he dedicated his career to solving complex problems and advancing knowledge. Yet those who knew him best understood that his true passion was powerlifting. He approached the sport, and life itself, with unmatched intensity, discipline, and heart. Whether in the gym, at work, or helping a friend in need, he gave nothing less than his absolute best.
Dave was a man of tremendous strength, both physically and morally. He never wavered from telling the truth, even when it was difficult. He believed deeply in honesty, personal responsibility, and standing up for what was right. While his intensity could sometimes be intimidating, it came from a place of conviction and a genuine desire to make the world better. He led with his heart and always fought for those who needed someone in their corner.
Above all else, Dave loved his family. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Julie Bracken, who was the center of his world and his greatest partner in life. He also leaves behind Julie’s children, Taylor Balog and Kory Balog, whom he loved as his own. His greatest pride and brightest joy were his granddaughters, Sydney and Hailee, who were truly the light of his life. Nothing brought a bigger smile to his face than time spent with them, and the love he shared with them will remain forever in their hearts.
Those who knew Dave will remember a man who was fiercely intelligent, intensely passionate, relentlessly determined, and deeply loyal. He challenged all to be better, inspired them to work harder, and never backed down from adversity. He was a self-proclaimed over achiever who actually enjoyed the long mortal battle with cancer. He kept that battle raging until the end of his mortal life. His legacy is one of courage, honesty, and love; a reminder that a life lived authentically and wholeheartedly leaves an impact that endures long after we are gone.
He will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
“A life measured not by ease, but by purpose, integrity, and the lives touched along the way.”
Survivors besides those mentioned above are his mother, Sherry Bracken, nieces Kristen Bracken, Shannon Williamson and 4 great nieces and one great nephew and many friends, from all over the world, who were like family.
David was preceeded in death by his father Gary Bracken and brothers Kenneth Bracken and Kevin Bracken.
A special thank you to Jamie Greene of Ambercare Hospice for her compassionate care to Dave and his family.
