Republican Party Of Los Alamos Announces June 2026 Events

Republican Party of Los Alamos

Congratulations to our local and state-wide Republican candidates who will now advance to the General Election. Our Council candidates, Jason Chappel and Eric Stromberg, are counting on your support and help!

Please join us for our Silent Auction Fundraiser Dinner on Thursday, June 18, 2026, 5 p.m. at SALA Event Center. I am thrilled to announce that we will have two honored guest speakers:  Didi Okpareke, candidate for New Mexico Congressional District 1, and Gregg Hull, candidate for New Mexico Governor. Online registration at this link.

As a long-time resident of our town, I am very troubled by the following:

  1. The lack of transparency, accountability, and oversight regarding downtown redevelopment.  As a gatekeeper for public funds, our County Review Committee continues to believe that it is not subject to the NM Open Meetings Act.
  2. The Trinity Drive Road Diet. This will create serious problems for our downtown businesses and is a disaster waiting to happen with our next evacuation. The only beneficiary appears to be Hasse Contracting, who will receive $7.12M to do the work.
  3. Los Alamos High School’s 2024-2025 math proficiency score was a dismal 38%, with an overall LAPS math proficiency of 56%. While our schools excel in many areas and our high achievers continue to do incredibly well,  many students are falling behind and will not be able to compete in today’s work force. Who will take responsibility?
  4. Utility rate increases:  recent editorial sums it up perfectly.
  5. Babies will no longer be delivered in Los Alamos. While I applaud the recently passed medical malpractice reform, it does not bring back the doctors our community has already lost.  On a regular basis, I hear from patients who have to wait several months to see their physician.

Gubernatorial candidate Gregg Hull has a proven track record of delivering results in economic growth, infrastructure, water, public safety, and accountable government as Mayor of Rio Rancho.  I greatly appreciate his plans to protect and strengthen rural health care.   Unless we elect new leadership at both the state and local level, we will continue on the path of steady decline in all areas.

On a positive note, the Faith and Community free movie will be “Bonhoeffer:  Pastor, Spy, Assassin” at SALA Event Center on Saturday, June 13, at 4:00 PM.  “As World War II devastates Europe, theologian and pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer is drawn into a dangerous resistance movement determined to stop Adolf Hitler. Facing impossible choices between faith, morality, and sacrifice, he risks everything in a courageous mission to help save millions from genocide.”
