Dozens Participate In 2026 Twilight Camp For Local Girl Scouts Week Of June 1

Local Girl Scouts gathered for their annual Twilight Camp the week of June 1. This year’s theme celebrated the modern cowgirl with a variety of activities including: knot tying, knife safety and whittling, lassoing and hobby horse racing, leather crafts, creating tin punch lanterns, target practice, sending Morse code messages, and beading crafts.

The girls were treated to square dance lessons from Deniece Korzekwa and performed square dancing and line dancing one evening.

This tradition brings together troops from Los Alamos, White Rock, Pojoaque and Espanola. Each year, the Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors (Girl Scouts in grades 6-12) select a theme, suggest stations, and write activity plans. These older Girl Scouts, also known as Program Aides or PAs, lead groups of younger Scouts from kindergarten through 5th grade, to different stations. This provides valuable opportunities for older Scouts to practice leadership skills and allows younger Scouts to learn from girls who were in their shoes only a few years ago. This year’s camp included 64 campers and 40 PAs.
